Apatite

History
Apatite has been known to the scientific community for a number of years, as it is one of few minerals that has medical uses. Gem quality apatite is not well known, as it is fairly soft.

Features
Apatite comes is a variety of colours ranging from blue, green and yellow to violet. Gem quality stones are seldom large, and star stones may also be found. Apatite may be completely flawless or included. With a hardness of 5, apatite is not well suited to rings, but is fine for pendants and earrings.

Treatments
There are no known treatments of apatite.

Principal Deposits
Apatite may be found in Myanmar, Sri Lanka, Spain, Norway and Canada.

Rarity
Apatite is a fairly common mineral, but gem quality stones over 1 carat are somewhat rare, with cat's eye apatite being rarer still.
